Welcome to Littlehill's Little Girl's blog :)

Hi!

Welcome to Littlehill's Little Girl's blog :)

Littlehill Animal Rescue & Sanctury in Kildare is home to many different rescued animals including a pig named Peppa and an adorable greyhound named Henry. Littlehill is a very special place where love and respect for all animals is unrivalled.

Every year 1000's of battery and free range hens are saved and re homed by Littlehill. These are Littlehill's Little girls and this is their story.
Noreen

Hens spend the first year of their lives in poultry farms.
They are over crowed, noisy and very stressful. For the battery hens, their home is a small cage shared with too many other hens to move. Although these girls have never known any other life, their natural instincts tell them different. These little girls just want to be hens and do hen things. Their instincts tell them to move around, to scratch the ground, forage for insects, eat leaves and run. However this is impossible when you live in a tight space with artificial lights and you never see beyond your cage. Every day is the same. Eat the same seed and lay eggs.

Thankfully for 1000's of these hens, when their time is up, it is Susan & Rachel from Littlehill that arrive to collect them. They are en route to a life of freedom. Loving homes from across the country are lined up to give these girls the life they deserve. For anyone who has had the privilege of adopting rescue hens they will know how much joy they bring. Who would have known that hens had such big personalities! They are little characters and they make me smile every day :)

  2. I remember seeing the hens for the first time. Missing feathers, stressed out and completely fragile. Each time I visit they've progressed more and more. As the weeks and months pass it's amazing to witness how healthy and full of character they've become. The passion and care displayed for not just the hens but for all animals Sinead, and her "farmhand" Brian, have looked after is further proof that I'm extremely lucky to have such decent and caring people as mates. All the best with the blog Sinead and your future acts of kindness towards animals...and to your farmhand :)
